Everyone knows that the best beach villas in Cape Town are found in the areas of Clifton and Camps Bay. Their blue-flag beaches, close proximity to the city’s many attractions and amenities, and unbeatable views make them popular amongst both visitors and locals. So which area should you stay in – Camps Bay or Clifton? Read on to hear our expert opinion!
Camps Bay vs Clifton Accommodation
While residing within close proximity of one another, the areas of Clifton and Camps Bay offer rather different holiday experiences to visitors.
Clifton is situated right above the beach which is split into four coves, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Set just steps away from the beach and enjoying sensational views of the Atlantic Ocean, while large villas are situated in the area, many of these homes tend to be compact and can only be accessed by steep steps, therefore suiting couples or families with older children best.
Camps Bay is a suburb featuring larger, family-style homes with more garden space than Clifton. Whilst not directly on the beach as is the case with the majority of our Clifton Villas, our Camps Bay homes are still within easy access, all of them enjoying ocean views.
Clifton vs Camps Bay Accommodation for Families
There are a few factors to consider when choosing between Camps Bay or Clifton for families.
The age of your family members is a very important factor to note when deciding between Camps Bay vs Clifton accommodation. Due to the positioning of our Clifton Villas, the majority of them are accessible only by a large number of steep steps. These beach homes are therefore not suitable for families with young children or elderly parents.
Additionally, families travelling to the Cape with young children are likely to appreciate garden space, which is more prevalent with our Camps Bay villas. Due to being slightly further back from the beach, these homes tend to have more space, thus featuring spacious lawns for children to play on.
While we do have a selection of Clifton villas that can be enjoyed by the whole family, we believe that Camps Bay offers holiday homes that are much better suited to families than those of Clifton.
Framed by the Twelve Apostles, Apostle Villa is a family-friendly Camps Bay home featuring four bedrooms, two living spaces, two terraces, a garden and a sparkling pool. While remaining close to Camps Bay Beach, Apostle View is a peaceful and private home to enjoy with your loved ones.
Another Camps Bay family-friendly villa is Ocean Breeze. This contemporary home is spacious and features ample room for all members of the family. With four bedrooms, large outdoor space, a pool and wonderful mountain and ocean views, Ocean Breeze is a perfect family-friendly retreat.
Clifton vs Camps Bay Beaches
The beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay are both wonderful with white sand, refreshing water, and beautiful mountain vistas. Camps Bay Beach is a long beach located opposite the palm-lined strip where multiple fabulous restaurants, cafes and bars are found. A vibrant area busy with activity, Camps Bay Beach is great for those wanting to enjoy long strolls or a day of sun-bathing and swimming with lunch and drinks options just steps away.
Clifton consists of four small beaches separated by large boulders. Unlike the large stretch of Camps Bay Beach, Clifton’s beaches are slightly quieter and better protected from the wind. For those seeking a peaceful morning of reading on the beach or enjoying a sundowner with friends overlooking the famous African sunset, one of Clifton’s four beaches is the better option.
For those staying at a Clifton villa, mere steps separate your accommodation from the sand. Clifton Sommerhus is a three-bedroom beach house situated on the rocks on Clifton 2nd beach. Floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors invite the ocean in, making for the ultimate luxury seaside accommodation.
Located one beach down on Clifton 3rd, Clifton Azure is a light and bright beach house featuring three bedrooms, a terrace, and a pool and jacuzzi among other amenities.
